Setting up the file
Open PDF
Go to File > Properties
Description Tab > fill in Title (title of PDF) and Author (if no author is listed on the PDF use HHS\ACF\OHS or whatever your client has told you to use for the default author. If you don’t know, leave it blank. It can be changed or filled in later.)
Note on filling out the Subject and Keywords fields: I’ve heaerd it is important for search engine optimization to have something relevant in the subject and keywords fields. You should ask your client what they’d like in those fields and explain the benefits of having those fields filled out.
Initial View Tab > Change drop-down menus under Layout and Magnification to the following:
Navigation Tab: Pages Panel and Page (unless the file is longer than 21 pages — then use Bookmarks Panel and Page)
Page Layout: Single Page continuous
Magnification: Fit Width
Change the “Show” drop-down menu under Window Options to document title (this will put the title of the document in the Title bar of Acrobat Reader or a browser)
Advanced Tab > Make sure language is set to whatever language the document is in.
Click Ok & save file.
Click on the Pages Panel
Click Options > Embed All Page Thumbnails
A window will open and you can see the thumbnails being embedded.
When the thumbnails are embedded, save your file.
